Traveling the Santa Fe Trail on a botanical exploration, Linnea Newberry longs to be taken seriously by the other members of the expedition. When she is rescued from an accident by Flynn McQuaid, her grandfather hires him to act as Linnea’s bodyguard, and Flynn soon finds himself in the greatest danger of all–falling for a woman he’s determined not to love.

My Thoughts:
Her long lashes framed innocent eyes, eyes that begged him to understand. “Please don’t be mad.”
“I ain’t mad.”
“Are you sure? Not even a little?”
“Nope. Not even a little.”
And that’s when I knew I loved Flynn McQuaid. In my notes, I said, “I love him for this alone. Everything else is a bonus.”
And with Flynn, there’s lots of bonuses.
At this point, you may be asking yourself if this book review will turn into something other than a Flynn fan club. And to that, I sigh and say, “If it must.”
I haven’t read too many Jody Hedlund books, but what I have read indicates the following: she can write a romance like nobody’s business AND she writes characters who feel real. Y’all know those are some of my favorite things, so this book was already headed in the right direction.
I was worried about Linnea’s character because science doesn’t really make sense to my brain, so I was worried that she would talk over my head a lot. But I ended up liking her fairly quickly. I also loved her grandpa. But Flynn’s sister Ivy was probably my favorite (aside from Flynn, of course) because she just says what she thinks, and what she thinks is usually hilarious.
There’s romance, action, and a little suspense. Readers of the previous book in the series are able to revisit some beloved characters, which was fun. Overall, this is just a great historical romance and I’m definitely looking forward to Brody’s story!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. All expressed opinions belong to me.

Book Boyfriend:
Flynn. All day, every single stinkin’ day. Although Wyatt is still dreamy and wonderful, Flynn completely stole my heart in this book. He’s just trying to protect his people and prove himself and be all things to everyone, and bless his heart for it. He’s precious. Infuriating at times, but precious.
